Finding the most suitable mobility solution for a critical metropolitan corridor in Guatemala, demanded reviewing the evidence base, testing future transport scenarios, and establishing the economic and financial foundations for investment. This included comparing feasible system options, quantifying their implications for users and the city, and shaping a coherent delivery and financing strategy to guide government decision-making.
Guatemala needed to reassess transport alternatives for a key metropolitan corridor to determine the most viable option for future mobility. The challenge lay in validating existing studies, forecasting demand under realistic scenarios, and building a financial model to guide decisions on investment, operation, and institutional arrangements.
MCRIT validated existing studies, developed demand forecasts, evaluated multimodal alternatives, assessed costs, impacts and benefits, developed the financial model, and proposed an implementation and management strategy including PPP assessment, remuneration and viability frameworks.
