To turn Bogotá’s climate and greening ambitions into concrete action, the project drew on MCRIT’s experience to align institutions, experts and communities around the Urban Renaturalization Plan and its Green Urban Renewal Strategy. The team helped translate these frameworks into implementation by co-defining priorities, shaping flagship interventions and designing a monitoring system to track progress and impacts over time.
Bogota sought to become a greener and more climate-resilient city, but lacked a clear, shared roadmap to restore natural systems within the urban fabric. The challenge was to align institutions, local communities and technical teams to co-create a practical and actionable plan for urban renaturalization and nature-based solutions.
MCRIT led participatory engagement and outreach with key stakeholders, strengthened the conceptual framework for urban renaturalization and nature-based solutions, identified and prioritised renaturalization and green urban renewal initiatives including a pilot project, and developed the monitoring and evaluation scheme to support implementation of the Urban Renaturalization Plan and its Green Urban Renewal Strategy.
