The project supported the development of a Business Continuity and Climate Resilience Plan for mass transit systems in Brazil, applied to the Foz do Rio Itajaí Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The objective was to identify the main climate risks affecting the region and the BRT infrastructure, and to translate these findings into practical recommendations for project design and implementation. By integrating climate adaptation measures and strengthening climate co-benefits, the consultancy helped improve the resilience and long-term reliability of the BRT system.

MCRIT conducted a comprehensive assessment of climate-related risks affecting the Foz do Rio Itajaí BRT corridor and its surrounding areas. We mapped and evaluated extreme weather hazards within the project’s area of influence and carried out a diagnosis of disaster risks and infrastructure vulnerability.

Our team modeled future risk scenarios to understand potential impacts under changing climate conditions and benchmarked the integration of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) systems with the BRT’s operational control center. Based on these analyses, MCRIT developed a Climate Adaptation and Resilience Action Plan defining targeted measures to strengthen the resilience and operational continuity of the BRT system and adjacent at-risk areas.
