With extensive expertise in macroscopic traffic models, MCRIT supported the development of a consistent evidence base for planning Spain’s State Road Network. By harmonising diverse datasets, calibrating realistic network behaviour and structuring scenario-based analyses, the work provided transport authorities with a practical tool for assessing service levels and guiding long-term investment decisions.
Spain needed a robust, unified national traffic model capable of accurately reproducing current traffic conditions across the State Road Network and projecting future mobility patterns. The challenge was to integrate diverse datasets, simulate realistic network behaviour, and generate scenario-based forecasts to support long-term planning and investment decisions.
MCRIT led the design and development of the national macroscopic traffic model, including data collection, model definition, calibration and validation, scenario development, service-level modelling, results databases, detailed pilot studies, training, and preparation of technical documentation and user manuals.
